George Attard, a 41-year resident of San Bruno died at home on December 16, 2019. He was 88 years old. He was the loving husband of the late Doris Attard for 56 years. George is survived by his sons, Charlie (Carolyn) Attard of San Bruno and David (Tammy) Attard of Mountain View; grandchildren: Nicholas, Alexandra, Catherine and Claire; his brother, Tony Attard and sisters, Josephine Finale and Katie Scerri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Savaria and Spiro Attard; brothers, John, Sam, Fred and Emanuel Attard and sister, Carmen Azzopardi.

George was a native of Qormi, Malta and worked as an automobile mechanic and watch repairman for over 30 years.

Obituary: : Maria Cortis was born in Mosta, Malta on January 6, 1929. She was the third of eight siblings born to Reno and Anna Mallia. She emigrated to the United States of America in 1953 where she met her future husband, Frank Cortis. Frank was from the neighboring town of Naxxar and she wondered how often their paths crossed in Malta but it took moving to San Francisco to meet and fall in love. They were married on June 22, 1957 and were together for almost 59 years, until Frank’s passing on March 21, 2016.


Maria and Frank had two daughters, Frances (Louis) Del Prete and Monica (Scott) Nuckels; six grandchildren: Robert (Beth Sanlorenzo), Rebecca Farac, Kristen Farac, Marc (Adeline) Del Prete, Michael (Kayci) Farac, and Andrew Del Prete; and five great-grandchildren: Harper and Hazel Farac, Barrett Olivo, Adrian Del Prete, and Julia Farac.


Maria is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Manuel, Sam, Charlie, Joe, and Dolores. She is survived by her sister, Chetta Muscat; brother, Fred; and sister-in-law, Josephine Mallia; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the U.S., Malta, and Australia.


Her interests were knitting, crocheting, completing word searches, volunteering at the SSF Senior Center (as a senior herself!), playing Bingo, and enjoyed trips to Reno. She was a member of the Maltese-American Social Club.


Maria prayed the Rosary daily until she was no longer able.


She was a strong woman in body, soul, and faith and will be dearly missed.
